The legal eagles working for Phil Spector are still trying to convince us their client doesn’t deserve to be locked up for the rest of his life. Lawyers for the legendary record producer filed a brief in a California appellate court seeking to overturn his second-degree murder conviction on grounds of judicial error and prosecutorial misconduct. One issue is the admission of testimony from five other women that Spector had threatened with firearms in the past.

Too bad the unfortunate Lana Clarkson, the beautiful blonde actress Spector was convicted of killing, never talked to any of those women. If she had, she might not have gone home with the psycho gun nut. No matter how much cash he blows on lawyers, Spector is still a crazy, violent wacko who deserves to be behind bars.

Tiger Woods has enlisted some high-powered help to rehab his battered image. The scandal-plagued golfer has been working with former George W. Bush presidential advisor Ari Fleischer to plan his return to golf later this month. Woods is expected to make his return to the links at the Arnold Palmer Invitational March 25 at Bay Hill in Orlando, Florida.

Fleischer should be the right guy for the job, since he repped Mark McGwire following his steroid scandal, and his client list includes the NFL and Major League Baseball. Tiger’s going to have to win a lot of tournaments this year to take the public’s mind off mistresses and mayhem!

HAIM’S DEATH LINKED TO DRUG RING

The tragic death of actor Corey Haim may have a criminal connection. One of the prescriptions found in Haim’s apartment has been linked to an investigation of bogus prescription bought pads from a San Diego vendor by persons using the identities of doctors.

California Attorney General Jerry Brown released this statement: “Corey Haim’s death is yet another tragedy linked to the growing problem of prescription-drug abuse. This problem is increasingly linked to criminal organizations, like the illegal and massive prescription-drug ring under investigation. It’s a serious public health problem.”

Haim’s autopsy was inconclusive, but the tox screens aren’t back yet, so we don’t really know how he died. When will people figure out that just because something comes in a nice clean plastic bottle from the drugstore doesn’t mean it can’t kill you?

HEIGL AWOL FROM “GREY’S”

Dr. Izzie Stevens may be finally checking out of Seattle Grace Hospital. Actress Katherine Heigl was scheduled to return to the set of “Grey’s Anatomy” on March 1, but so far hasn’t shown up. There have been rumors over the last couple of years that Heigl wanted to depart the show that made her famous to concentrate on her film career, and many viewers expected to see Izzie killed off at the end of last season.

Sources are claiming that Heigl will finally get her wish, and details are being worked out on her exit from the show. Given how little we’ve seen of Izzie this season, I doubt she’ll be missed.

COREY HAIM TO BE BURIED IN TORONTO

Actor Corey Haim, who died suddenly Wednesday, will be buried in his native Toronto, his manager said Thursday.

Marc Heaslip, who managed the late actor’s career, confirmed the news to UsMagazine.com. Heaslip said there will also be a memorial in Los Angeles, where Haim’s family will ask for donations to fund the funeral services.

The 38-year-old actor, who struggled with addiction for most of his life, was found dead in the L.A. apartment that he shared with his mother Judy.

Though there’s speculation that his death was due to a drug overdose, the final cause of death has not been officially announced. The initial autopsy report from the Los Angeles County Coroner said Haim had an enlarged heart, pulmonary congestion and water in his lungs at the time of his death, his mother told Access Hollywood.

The ladies of “The Real Housewives of Orange County” reunited Wednesday night after the dramatic season 5 finale, which showed Tamra Barney’s marriage falling apart and Lynne Curtin’s teen daughters acting out.

Host Andy Cohen didn’t waste time getting right down to the tough questions, beginning with Tamra and Simon’s doomed relationship.

On her controlling husband: “To constantly have to hide things and not always be honest with him because I’ve been so afraid of making him mad, I don’t want to live like that.”

On why she stayed in the marriage: “I knew it wasn’t going to work. I knew but I had kids … I thought, I’ve got to make it work.”
